Professionalizing the sports industry with our executive programs and academic degrees
Once upon a time SLI founder and owner Bartel Berkhout was combining his work as a lawyer in Amsterdam’s financial district with coaching national hockey teams all over the world. He took a break, did his MBA at Nyenrode Business University and looked for a degree to get academically schooled as a sports professional. He couldn’t find it and that’s why he decided to build it himself.
Nyenrode Sports was launched with a mission to educate, inspire and empower the next generation leaders in sports. The renowned, original sports leadership program was created in 2014. This sports leadership program was so unique, that other academic insitutions and sports federations knocked on the door to have their own programs and degrees made.
In 2019 the philosophy behind the SLP program emerged into the new independent Sports Leadership Institute. In partnership with the Amsterdam University of Applied Siences and multiple international universities it offers the new Sports Leadership Programme. Together with the commercial partner, SportsinQ, the SLI also creates white-label progams and curriculums for academic degrees.
In addition to these core-business activities, the Sports Leadership Institute also organizes executive field trips (known as “Expert Series”), moderates conferences and creates exclusive corporate team development days.
